Experience the intricacy, beauty and complexity of the world around us through microscopy at the ASCUS Lab.
At the end of the course you will know the basics of how to use different types of microscopes, tips and tricks to search and identify specimens, how to prepare various samples and image capturing for independent personal, creative or scientific applications.
Whether you have a project in mind, or just want to experience the wonder and magic of the unseen world for yourself, this microscopy course is for everyone, no previous experience is required.
What will be covered:
Using the microscope - What do all the knobs and levers do?
Sample viewing - How to find what you are looking for
Slide preparation – fixing and mounting
Different types of microscopes
Optimised illumination techniques and imaging
Applying what you have learnt
All participants should bring along a notebook, all other materials are provided. You are welcome to bring your own DSLR cameras and/or SD cards, however we have some cameras available and will send you images after the workshop.
