Zoom In-Explore-Reveal: Summer Skills School

Zoom In-Explore-Reveal
Microbiology and Microscopy Summer school
Mon – Fri, 10am – 6pm, 15th – 19th July 2019

Our world is full of things invisible to the human eye. Have you ever tried to see the micropatterns of everyday objects? Can you imagine how much life is in a drop of puddle water or a single gram of soil from your garden? Experience the world of microorganisms living around us and creatively experiment with microbes often used in the lab, including baker’s yeast and bacteria that produce light, antibiotics and pigments.

This series of workshops including theory and hands on experiments will take you through the stunning world of microbes, microscopes and unseen details. Each day you will gain new insights into microscopy and microbiology and will have a chance to practise yourself with expert guidance from our microbiologist Lab Technician.

ASCUS Lab is equipped for several microscopy techniques and houses a variety of microorganisms for you to work with. Take this chance to explore and gain understanding of how our world is full of details, patterns and colours. A world inhabited by microbial friends and foes interacting with their surroundings, including oursleves. Our course will provide you with the skills and techniques needed to explore diverse samples in microscopic scale from both scientific and creative perspectives. All you need is yourself, a notebook and an open mind. All other materials are provided.
